The Zalon Taung Pagoda is located on a mountain about 3,090 feet above the sea level about 12 miles north of Banmauk in Sagaing region. The history of the Zalon Taung Pagoda said the mountain is the place where the fifth Buddha named “Ariya Metteyya” preached. The tour started from the Mandalay and drive to the Banmauk (about 8 hrs) with the private car or public bus. And stay for a night in Banmauk and then drive to the new transport terminal (about 15 kms way on the unsealed road) and then go up to the top of the mountain(about an hour). Tourism in Zalon Taung was initiated in 2017 but foreign tourists are not allowed entry as the area is still one of the restricted zones in Myanmar. However, there were 76,854 domestic visitors from December 2017 to September 2018.
